Saturday 20 October West of Scotland Cup
|
Dalziel eased into the third round of the Colville Park Country Club sponsored West of Scotland Cup with a straightforward home win against the Caledonian second division side. Derek Agnew opened the scoring in 10 minutes, latching on to a loose ball in the 18 yard box before firing into the bottom corner. The lead was doubled in 20 minutes when Ross Reynolds powered home a header at the back post following a deep cross by Gerry McShane, and the same player provided another deep cross that gave David Jackson the opportunity to tee up Willie McCulloch for the third before half time. The margin of lead at the interval was hard on the visitors who had hit the bar from a great free kick, and had a couple of penalty claims turned down.
The second half developed into a midfield battle with few chances being created by either side, Dalziel looked content to hold onto their lead and hit on the break. The tie was finally over with 10 minutes left when Jamie McDonald added a fourth goal from 25 yards. Dalziel have been drawn at home to Millerston Thistle in Round 4.
