Two hard fought victories away from home have seen Dalziel head the Caledonian League.
|
Last weekend Dalziel moved their fixture when Dalziel Park was waterlogged. A superb 20 yard strike from Graham Donaldson gave the visiting side the lead after 10 minutes. David Jackson converted a free kick from the edge of the box on 20 minutes to give Dalziel a two goal advantage at half time. After 10 minutes of the second half all the good work of the first half was undone when the home side scored twice. The game could have gone either way at this point with both teams trying to gain the upper hand. The game was finally settled in the last minute when Colm McGarry capitalised on a mistake to drive into the Bannockburn area and play the ball across goal, Darren Ferguson arrived at the right time to touch the ball over the line for a welcome winning goal.
Links Utd 0 - 4 Dalziel FP
The week before Dalziel travelled to Edinburgh to face the promoted champions from last seasons first division. Paul Crumley gave Dalziel the lead after 10 minutes taking advantage of hesitation in the home defence. The visitors seemed to cope with the blustery conditions better than the home team, and had moved into a 2 goal lead at half time with a Graham Donaldson strike. Dalziel continued to control the play and extended their lead on the hour with a Darren Ferguson header from a David Jackson corner. Dalziel's goalkeeper Andy Sweeney coped well with the few goal attempts that Links could manage, but it was no surprise when Paul Crumley snatched his second goal to seal a very good win for the visitors.
West Park Utd 3 - 1 Dalziel FP (U21)
A disappointing result seen the U21 side crash out of the Scottish Cup.
